Hotels : Hotels St Petersburg boasts everything from world class multi-starred hotels to quaint boutique stays, and youth hostels. Luxury hotels have proliferated like mushrooms in the rain, and there are plenty of establishments that meet international business standards. Most business hotels will be located on and around Nevsky prospekt, whereas smaller hotels and those addressing the needs of tour groups will be further out of the city centre. Visitors who plan on staying for a longer period of time may be interested in researching apartment stays. The hotels below have been grouped into four different pricing categories: $$$$ (over US$300) $$$ (US$200 to US$300) $$ (US$100 to US$200) $ (under US$100) These prices are per double room per night, and include all taxes. Breakfast is extra. Business Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel Right on Nevsky prospekt, the Nevskij Palace blends luxury and excellent service with a no-nonsense business atmosphere. The hotel, which opened in 1993, combines the exterior of two historic 19th-century buildings with a completely new interior. A sweeping atrium with a small shopping arcade greets visitors, and three restaurants within the hotel offer a choice of cuisines, such as Russian and Georgian as well as Asian and other influences. Some 250 rooms range from luxury suites to 'smart rooms' for business travellers. These are the same in size as the hotel's standard rooms but house a mini-office with desk, fax machine, printer and other amenities. All rooms contain satellite television, IDD telephones and Internet connections. A main business centre also provides additional business extras as needed. Meeting rooms house audio/visual modern equipment. The hotel also provides a fitness centre with sauna and exercise equipment. Nevsky prospekt 57 Tel: (812) 740 3979 or 900 6288. Refurbished in 1991, and again in 2002, the hotel maintains historical features such as original chandeliers, statuary, marble walls, and mirrored French doors, while creating modern rooms with an almost austere Scandinavian feel. While some say the latest renovations have robbed the hotel of its uniqueness, the Astoria is still a much sought-after St Petersburg experience. And the location, a stone's throw from the majestic St Isaac's Cathedral, with incredible views, is great. There are over 500 rooms and several restaurants, including the famed Winter Garden, and a few exclusive shops and a cafe serve patrons' every need. Bolshaya Morskaya 39 Tel: (812) 494 5757. Standard, superior rooms and suites all have phones and televisions. A restaurant and hotel provide sustenance if needed, and for very budget-minded travellers, a series of rooms with a shared bath may be booked on one floor.
